\"\"<\/a>“It’s perfect!”\u00a0 Lyndsey exclaimed, looking at the Razith series fighter in front of her.<\/p>\n

Her mother looked at it with the critical eye of an expert ship’s mechanic.\u00a0 “Hmmm \u2026 old model.\u00a0 It’d need a newer hyperdrive and shields at the very least.\u00a0 And I’d want to do some body work before I’d trust it to be spaceworthy.”\u00a0 She paused, mentally calculating.\u00a0 “Call it a korva’s work.\u00a0 Maybe two.”<\/p>\n

The younger women shrugged, her sapphire eyes sparkling.\u00a0 “So it’ll be ready when I finish training.”<\/p>\n

“Daddy!\u00a0 You’ve got <\/em>to see my ship!”\u00a0 Lyndsey said as soon as Viktor came into the house that evening.<\/p>\n

He looked at Renata.\u00a0 “I thought you two were just going to look today?\u00a0 You weren’t going to make any hasty decisions?”<\/p>\n

His wife shrugged.\u00a0 “She fell in love with one and it was a good deal, so we bought it.”<\/p>\n

Viktor shook his head, having expected no less from the two impetuous women.\u00a0 “What kind of ship is it?”<\/p>\n

“That’s a surprise.\u00a0 C’mon, Daddy.\u00a0 You’ll love it.” He somewhat reluctantly followed his daughter to the speeder.<\/p>\n

Viktor’s eyes widened in shock when he saw the ship Lyndsey so eagerly and enthusiastically showed him.<\/p>\n

“A Razith?” he managed to say after staring at it for several seconds.<\/p>\n

“Yep,” Lyndsey said proudly.<\/p>\n

Her father closed his eyes and counted to ten before speaking again.\u00a0 “Lyndsey, Razith’s were already antiques when I flew one in the War.\u00a0 In fact, the last ones in the Defense Force were decommissioned about six months into the War.”<\/p>\n

She shrugged in perfect (if accidental) imitation of her mother earlier.\u00a0 “Your point is?”<\/p>\n

Viktor didn’t answer, his attention now fixated on a small hole in the cockpit’s canopy.\u00a0 “This thing isn’t even spaceworthy!”<\/p>\n

“Mom can fix that.”<\/p>\n

“That’s not the point.\u00a0 Lyndsey, for just once in your life will you listen to me?\u00a0 It’s bad enough that you’re becoming a Dagger \u2013 that makes me worry about you enough, without adding to it worry that you’re fighting in a museum piece.\u00a0 What’s wrong with a Kirid?\u00a0 Or even better \u2013 Ren should know where you can get a good deal on one \u2013 a Talzy?\u00a0 They’ve got the best maneuver drives you’ll find on a Galfarran fighter.”<\/p>\n

“Nothing’s wrong <\/em>with them. It’s just \u2026 this is my<\/em> ship, Daddy.\u00a0 This one.\u00a0 She just needs a little love.”<\/p>\n

Viktor sighed and hugged his daughter.\u00a0 “You’re entirely too much like your mother sometimes.”\u00a0 Lyndsey grinned as she thanked him.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
